Acrobats abseile down Nelson's Column - 01/09/2005
Acrobats preformed the very first abseile down Nelson's Column as London re-lived its 2012 victory.
The aerial performers made history as they descended the Trafalgar Square centrepiece,
unveiling a 300ft silk banner of the London 2012 logo as they went.
Paula aims for 2012 - 01/08/2005
Marathon star Paula Radcliffe is planning to compete in the London 2012 Olympic Games
and Paralympic Games.
Radcliffe who will be 38 in 2012 said "Now I am figuring out how to keep going
until 2012 and also help the new talent to come through strongly so that we can
host successful Games in seven years".
The First Hundred Days - 15/07/2005
London 2012 Chairman Sebastian Coe and Chief Executive Keith Mills set out
their plans for making London ready for the Olympics in 2012. Coe will chair
the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG),
the company responsible for delivering the 2012 Games with Mills as
his deputy.
The Olympic Bill is published. When it becomes a law, this Act will establish the
Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) which will be responsible for co-ordinating
infrastructure projects, transport and delivery of competition venues.
The Decision - 06/07/2005
Crowds in Trafalgar Square and all over Britain erupt in applause at
London being awarded the 2012 Olympic Games. Messages of congratulation
come from the Queen, Tony Blair and Nelson Mandela. President of France,
Jaques Chirac, is 'disappointed'.
